What is a discussion list?
A discussion list is a way of keeping in touch with other people who share your interests.
How does it work?
Once you have joined a discussion list, you begin to receive e-mail from the other parties who belong
to the list. If you choose to post your own message to the list, it is automatically distributed to
all list members.
Why should I join this discussion list?
- access a community of subject matter experts
- receive e-mail notifications of updates to this site
- receive Internet News Headlines
Probably the best reason to join is that our list is the easiest way for you to reach others in the
same field who share your interests and frustrations and might be able to provide good advice or a useful
tip.
The following exchange is typical:
| Question: |
"Does anyone know a good site for finding ...." |
| Reply: |
"I've tried several but the best is probably ...." |
Another reason to join? Updates! This web site is continuously
updated. Notice of every substantive change to the site is automatically sent to members of the
list.
Lastly, list members receive Internet News Headlines on a regular basis. These excerpts from over 50
different Canadian news sources filter the news for the latest developments in the field.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of joining the list?
Advantages:
The discussion list is:
- dedicated to the topic of how to use the Internet for investigations
- a means to access a growing pool of talent and expertise
- a chance to share your knowledge and expertise with others
- a mechanism for learning about changes to the web site
- an method of getting Internet News Headlines
- absolutely free (no strings attached)
- not a "commercial" forum (no advertising)
Disadvantages:
